Don’t Send Your Tax Dollars to Columbus
Give them to Hilltop Montessori instead!
An Ohio law allows taxpayers to receive up to $750 ($1500 for couples filing jointly) as a credit against their 2025 tax liability if they make a donation to a Scholarship Granting Organization before April 15, 2026.
You can support HMS, at no cost to you.
No, really: it’s that easy.
These are the tax dollars the State of Ohio says you owe them, but they let you give it to our scholarship fund, instead.
You will get back every dollar you give to our SGO, up to $750 per taxpayer, or the amount of your tax liability (whichever is lower). Then, that money is available for our families to apply for scholarships.
If we get enough donations into our SGO, we could, quite seriously, provide a full-ride scholarship to every student.
Here’s How To Do It
It’s a Tax Credit
The State of Ohio gives a tax credit to taxpayers who make a donation to a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO). The credit is up to $750 per taxpayer, $1500 per couple filing jointly. A donation made before April 15 can apply to the previous year’s tax filing.
Step One
Find Your Tax Liability
If you’re doing your own taxes, look at line 13 on your Ohio IT 1040. If you are working with TurboTax, H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, or your favorite tax preparation official, find out from them how much your Ohio tax liability is before they finalize your filing.
Step Two
Make the Qualifying Donation Before April 15
You can donate as much as you like, but the credit tops out at $750 per tax payer, or the amount of your tax liability, whichever is lower.
Be sure to choose HILLTOP MONTESSORI SCHOOL – STEUBENVILLE in the “Select Schools” dropdown.
Step Three
Include This Donation In your Tax Filing
As you are filling out your Ohio IT 1040, include your donation on line 15 of the Schedule of Credits.
Step Four
Get your money back
If you are getting a refund, the qualifying amount of your donation will be added to your refund. If you owed a tax payment, the amount of your donation will reduce the amount you owe, and anything beyond your amount owed will come back to you in a refund.
