Summer Camps 2022
Hilltop Children’s House will present math and reading camps during the summer of 2022. The hands-on, visual, spatial, and experiential benefits of the materials in the Montessori approach make these camps unlike anything children see in conventional schooling, and even in many homeschool environments.
Ages: Both camps are geared toward children who are seven and older.
Limited Class Size: We will limit these camps to six children per camp per session.
Math Camps
Children who struggle with math as it is typically presented in a conventional school may benefit from a more hands-on, concrete, and visual approach to the principles and operations of mathematics. This program will cover addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division. Using typical Montessori materials like bead chains, the stamp game, the exchange game, and the snake game, plus more hands-on, applied exercises like baking, children will learn the concepts through concrete activities, and will learn to enjoy applying math!
Reading Camps
Children who struggle with phonetic reading, cursive writing, and functions of words and their usage in a sentence, can benefit from a concrete, kinesthetic approach to learning reading. A research project will help them understand the importance of reading well, and give them practice in synthesizing and restating in their own words.
Structure of the Camps
The camps will run concurrently, one after the other, during three two-week sessions. Children may take part in both camps, or only one of the camps, during a two-week session.
The math camp will run from 8:15 to 10:45 a.m., then a 15 minute break will allow the transition to the reading camp.
The reading camp will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
These camps will be offered in three two-week units.
The sessions are:
- June 20 – July 1
- July 11 – 22
- August 1 – 12
Tuition
- Math camp: $250
- Reading camp: $150
